Review of Passengers (2016) by Tristan M — 21 Mar 2017
Pretty good sci-fi flick, enjoyable watch. The story is pretty cool, good idea, decently original, but doesn't exactly feel super new while your watching it. It's filled with CGI and special effects, which all look good and convincing, and make a good futuristic space environment.
The ship feel like something out of Wall-E, but all the angles and exterior design make for a pretty cool design. The cast of 2 whole people buts a lot of pressure on them, and what they can pull off is kinda what the movie is resting on.
Luckily they both do very well, they are convincing and are full of emotion and energy. The trailer, although well done in bringing interest to this film, does give some stuff away, and the movie is relatively predictable even without that.
So although the movie is exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat in a way, it also has you playing a game of telling yourself what is going to happen next, and not to your surprise seeing exactly that happen.
Otherwise great movie, has a good concept and the cast of 2 does a fantastic job, and it's mostly them who pull the movie off. Doesn't feel super new in the midst of all these new space travel type movies, but when you think about it it's something we haven't seen yet that's fairly well done.
