Review of Passengers (2016) by Steven C — 10 May 2017

One of the best and interesting movies in recent years. A spaceship is on a 120 year journey to Homestead II, a planet for new life. Chris Pratt hibernate pod malfunction and he woke up 90 years early.

He can only talk to an android bartender Michael Sheen. He try all methods to go back hibernate or get access into control room but all fails. He even wanted to suicide into space but back out. He chance upon Jennifer Lawrence and began to read and understand her.

Very quickly he likes her. After a year plus passed, he awake her to keep him company after pondering for months. He is engineer and she is writer/journalist. They get to know each other and gradually fell in love.

After a year pass, the android take their "no secrets between them" too literally and reveal how he woke her up. Jennifer is devastated and shuns him, just when he is going to propose to her.

She just ignores him from there on. Chris try to win her back by planting a tree in the middle. One day Laurence Fishburne awaken and ask who plant the tree. He is deck crew and access into control room.

But he is dying from multiple illness. The gravity shield malfunction and Jennifer nearly drown in air pool water until gravity resume. They quickly find the problem and realize some part of the ship must have been hit.

But soon Laurence died from illness because his pod causes them. Chris and Jennifer find the main computer nuclear reactor been hit badly by asteroids. Chris goes in to fix and blown out to space. Jennifer suit up and manage to pull him back.

Using the advance doctor machine to revive him as well. Chris suggest she hibernate with the machine but she refuse. Forward to 90 years, the crew wakes up and find the ship with plants and animals.
