Review of Paris, Texas (1984) by Morten Ø — 23 Dec 2008
If I were to make a top 10 list with my favorite movies, this movie would diffiantly be on that list. From the first scene with Harry Dean Stanton walking across the surreal, desserted landscape to the final scene with him driving away in his car is simply film-beauty in all possible ways. Each scene is filled with an amazing intense dialouge, extraordinary cinemagraphy and music that even is Morricone worthy.
The movie has a lot to it, but what seems as the most obivous theme is reflected in Harry Dean Stanton's character. His existential crisis and his continues search (or hiding from) his former girl, Jane Henderson, shows a man that cannot cope with his past. However, when he gets picked up by his brother, Dean Stockwell, he is more or less forced to face what he left behind four years prior - His son. As their relationship gradually improves so does Harry Dean Stanton character.
Perhaps the best movie I've seen in 2008. Words are useless, simply perfection!
