Review of Paris, Texas (1984) by Victor B — 01 Nov 2010
I had surprisingly never even heard of this movie until the recent Criterion release put it on my radar. Having seen and appreciated Wenders' Picnic at Hanging Rock, I decided to check this out. I must say, I have absolutely no idea why this movie isn't more well known.
The cinematography was superb; being well executed and the lighting created a wonderful atmosphere. The performances of the actors were perfect, my favorite scene being where Travis and Jane [sort of] first come face to face.
There was an electricity in the air and a great sense of sadness, anguish, and self-reflection. While the movie offers up very few answers, I believe it was stronger for it. Highly recommended, this is a must see film.
