Review of Parenthood (1989) by Matthew P — 27 Jan 2008
If some movies are like popcorn, and some movies are like a glass of fine wine, this ensemble movie is like a four-course meal followed by the perfect "digestif." Everything clicks. Wonderful heartfelt performances by the likes of Tom Hulce, Keanu Reeves, Joachin Phoenix (as "Leaf Phoenix"), and a laundry list of other distinghuished actors and actresses we all just have to love (Robards, Moranis, Steenburgen, Martin, Wiest, Plimpton).
The kids are also fantastic. There is also quite a bit of life-affirming philosophy, but not in a preachy way. Music and production also excellent. Loved it.
