Review of Paranormal Activity (2007) by Bill B — 16 Jan 2014

I have to recant a good deal of the review below, as we re-watched this one with a friend who isn't as jaded to the horror conventions as the wife and I may be, and it honestly made the experience much more fun. Hell, it's even held up on a 3rd viewing at this point, so I guess this is more successful than I first found it to be.

I've left the initial impressions intact below, but my feelings have definitely changed at this stage of things.

"I went into this hoping to be drawn into their world and scared of every noise in my house afterward.

This did not happen. Perhaps I needed more things moving, more noises or even a faster escalation of events to have this one 'get' to me, but this just never gelled for me and I really can't say that I understand what all the hype was about.

Perhaps it's a crowd thing, maybe I should've gone for a theatrical viewing, but either way, this wasn't for me. A few eerie moments didn't make it worth my while.".
