Review of Paranormal Activity (2007) by Brandon W — 29 Oct 2015
The weird thing for me is that I got introduced to the Paranormal Activity series by the third movie, but as they say it best, "Better late then never." So for Paranormal Activity, it's a freaky movie that made director Oren Peli and producer Jason Blum well known.
Katie Featherston is really good giving some scared moments, and some creepy moments also. Micah Sloat is funny at being such a jerk, but also acts like a caring person that never seem to question why is Katie still with him.
The characters felt like real people although Micah can act a little too mean-spirited at times. The scares are effective and they were never jump scares which is rare these days. The script is good and the way they shot it is really great and when it cuts, it never was in aa convenient moment.
It makes sense about why it's being filmed, and it also makes sense how it got found hence the term, "Found-footage." The effects the filmmakers did at such a low budget is very impressive, and the movie had some nice ideas like hoe the spirit comes in the bedroom or the ouija board.
While Paranormal Activity isn't the scariest film of all time as some people say it is, it's still a nice enough film that I'm glad it turn out to be a series as Katie's backstories did lead up to a sort of sequel and a prequel.
