For horror to work it can't be slight. Like its parent, "Paranormal Activity 2" is a blunt reminder of everything that makes great horror work, even if neither really test anything new. Tod Williams, taking the place of writer-director Oren Peli, helmer of the last, takes shaky-cam faux-doc filmmaking style with a grain of salt, making it feel as if we're literally thrown into a premise already set up for us thanks to the first movie.

It's because of this "Paranormal Activity 2" is restricted from being anything more than a basic rehashing of "Paranormal Activity"; new family tossed in for the demonic house ghost to toy with, and a superstition solely derived from words, words, words.
