Review of Paranormal Activity 2 (2010) by Christopher H — 30 Jan 2013

Much like its predecessor Paranormal Activity 2 is about a seemingly unimportant family but suddenly strange things start to happen around the house, after these events become gradually more and more distressing they begin to suspect a superntaural threat in their midst.

For anyone who hasnt seen the first Paranormal Activity the sequel does correlate directly with the first one, I will not discuss what the connection is because it is much more enjoyable not knowing, also it is a much more engaging experience for people who have seen the first film because they will completly understand the connection.

The biggest hurdle this film had to cross was the similarity to the first film. Since both films progress very similarly, in the fact that as each night passes the supernatural occurances get progressivly worse. But the similarity does'nt stop them: they manage to make each circumstance creative and terrifying.

The only downside to this film is that it did'nt leave as much to the imagination as the first film did, and also it focused its fear a lot more on sound and visuals than the fear of the unkown like the first film did. But with that the sequel is also a lot more extreme than the first one is but that is a necessity since it doesn't want to to get repetive, because if it's not any different from the first film then it would just get boring. Of course these problems aren't overbearing and they are personal opinions instead of things fundamentaly wrong with the film.

In conlusion, Paranormal Activity 2 is definitly worth seeing for anyone who enjoyed the first film or anyone who enjoys a good horror movie. but for anyone who wants to see this fim and hasn't seen the first one yet, I would strongly suggest that they go out and see the first one before teh sequel since it will make the experience a lot more staisying, because if you dont understand any of the connections between the films it will make the sequel a lot less powerful, especailly the ending.
