Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Luke R — 29 Dec 2008
I can see where they were going with this film, but I'm sorry - it wasn't for me. Whilst I am sure I may be missing some underlying "brilliance" from the director,Gus Van Sant, as a stand-alone piece of work I just thought it didn't give me enough.
That may just make me stupid or something, but I felt the movie danced around the issues that needed to be explored further, leaving the main plot largely unresolved. I also wasn't a massive fan of the musical montages, even though some of the skateboarding shots were superb.
Even thought I spotted a continuity error when Alex is walking back home with his notebook from the beach, the notebook goes missing in one shot, even though it was in his hand the shot immediately before and in the one after back at home.
Just not a movie for me.
