Review of Paranoiac (1963) by Hunter D — 17 Sep 2009
A short and very sweet psycho-thriller directed by Freddie Francis, who is probably best known for being David Lynch's cinematographer. This film is sort of a Hitchcock knock-off, but it's a damn good one that's better than a chunk of Hitch's movies.
It also features a delightfully insane performance from everyone's favorite raging alcoholic, Oliver Reed, who acts crazy and drinks a lot throughout the film (so he's basically just like Oliver Reed in real life).
Coming from Hammer Studios in England, a production house best known for their gothic horror movies starring the likes of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, this movie has little in common with their re-imaginings of Universal monster movies and stands on its own as lean, engaging movie that's worth your time.
