Review of Paranoiac (1963) by L J — 14 Sep 2007
Ollie drinks A LOT in this - and flies into a violent rage when the brandy runs out - was he acting? Well anyway, he's great (as usual) in this quite brilliant psychological thriller from Hammer as the spoiled son trying to destroy his fragile sister, thus making him the sole benificiary of his late parents' fortune. Unfortunately for him, their previously-thought-dead brother turns up ...or does he?
Some excellent little twists in Jimmy Sangster's script, and a few tense moments along the way, almost worthy of Hitchcock, I would say (...ALMOST) - indeed, the Psycho influence is definitely there, if not absolutely blatant.
Janette Scott is as sweet as a honey-pie.
