Review of Paranoia (2013) by Richard V — 23 Aug 2013
Bleak and odd, Paranoia is not a movie that needs to be seen. Especially in the third act, the movie tends to make it unclear as to why we should bother with Liam Hemsworth's character, who makes dumb choices for selfish reasons.
And the end of the movie does have this cliched and hopeful ending for a technology based movie. The moral of the story seems to be that there are only rich and poor left in America, and it's better to die than to be poor.
And, of course, live like you're rich. Gary Oldman is a sinister villain (as usual) , but doesn't have a purpose. And Harrison Ford plays a decent guy who we are told is a manipulative and bad guy (and he is, but at this point, you don't care).
And the technology - the cellphones and social networking - tries to be innovate, but is instead boring.
