Review of Paradise Now (2005) by Lexy A — 09 Mar 2008
This may be the most amazing film I've ever seen.
A beautiful and artistic portrayal of a complex political situation. Yet It transcends political posturing and shows us the profound humanity of those in the midst of the conflict.
In addition to the ceaseless tension caused by the looming suicidal explosion, every scene contains enough emotion to literally leave you breathless. Their panic, fear, doubt, sorrow, regret, guilt, anger and loneliness can be found in the moments of â??silenceâ?? that define this film - their sighs, the eyes of Said, and the tears of Suha. The sounds of traffic and overflowing coffee pots remind us of the things not being said and the life theyâ??re giving up. The ever present noise contrasts the silent white screen that is Saidâ??s death. The lack of music leaves us no moment to escape, demanding that we be present in every heart-wrenching tension-filled moment of this film.
Written beautifully and paced with perfection. Every actor did an outstanding job. Not a single character was unconvincing or lacked complexity. The cinematography was marvellous.
Seriously, I could write a paper about every way this movie is amazing, but even then I probably couldnâ??t do it justice. Just watch the movie, you wonâ??t regret it.
