Review of Papillon (1973) by Rod A — 11 Nov 2009
This is a throwback to the big, epic films of the early 60s and late 50s. The characters are painted in broad strokes and there's plenty of morality to go around. An interesting modern wrinkle arrives with the notion of Abu Garib.
At the time of the original filming, it probably seemed inconceivable that the United States could be responsible for such tortuous incarceration. Now, the scene has changed a bit.
