Review of Papillon (1973) by Samantha G — 16 Oct 2013
A very long and drawn out portrayal of the life of Henri Papillion Charriere. His mindset throughout the whole film is to escape whatever prison he seems to be in at the moment. He makes friends and enemies and does escape some the prisons.
But like I said his character doesn't have a drastic change. He continues to always want to escape. It got old after a while. McQueen's performance would have to be one of his best roles but I feel Hoffman was cast wrong.
Also the island scenes were a bit annoying with no lines, it was confusing as to what happened. Worth the viewing if only for McQueen's performance.
