Review of Paper Towns (2015) by Alonso V — 08 Mar 2016
The film tells the story of Quentin, "Q" and Margo Roth Spiegelman, his childhood friend and mysterious neighbor. Q is from the beginning in love with her, so when, one night, she comes in his bedroom to ask him help to get avenge for her ex-boyfriend, he directly accepts. The next day Margot disappear, living behind her, some cryptic clues for him to decipher. He decides to launch in his research by meaning of his friends; from there, begins a real expedition with a lot of mysteries to resolve. Different leads which are going to bring him as a long travel across the America to find the "Paper Towns" that she has talked before. This expedition will be replete of full of rising love, madness and unexpected things.
Quentin's character acts throughout the story as an investigator in search of the love of his life, but sometimes he rushes head lowered. Nevertheless his act is really great and he reaches to bring ourselves mystery and suspense. Margot bring us a touch of mystery but during the story we cannot understand if she had left there clues for him, until the end, we cannot imagine if Quentin will arrive to find her. The other character incarnates on one hand intelligence and maturity by Raddar and also the madness the good mood by Ben and Lacey. The performances in general are excellent.
The slow musics that constitute the film bring again this part of mystery that we expect throughout the story. The zoom we remind that some elements (paper, scribes, etc.) have an important place to found her, but there is only one element that drives us to an only lead; all that fault element red herring to confuse ourselves and create suspense again.
The message here is the way how people see each other. John Green said "There is always difference between the ways whose we imagine.
Something and the way whose really take place". This message is intended for young adults principally (their relationship), during the story Quentin ask himself about the real nature of Margot and it's maybe the principal message of the comedy, "...don't focus on appearances, but to things that really imported...".
I highly recommend it because it's captivating, the performance are really great the casting is well chosen according to me. More, we can easily identify ourselves with the different characters. On scale from zero to five, I give this film a four because I was impressed by the performances and the movie in general; however I was a little disappointed by the end...
