Review of Paper Towns (2015) by Scott W — 18 Sep 2016
One reason why I like high school movies is I think more than most genres you can project yourself on the characters. And I certainly see a lot of my high school self in Quentin. I think there is something to be said for having a Margo in your life, someone who will take you out of your comfort zone to experience new things.
I see Margo as more of an idea in this movie than a character. What she does for Quentin is more important than where she goes and whether anyone is going to find her. I had some mixed feelings about how things play out between her and Quentin (I won't get into spoilers).
But my favorite parts of the movie were the interactions between Quentin and his friends. Their road trip and the bond they share as they realize high school is ending soon is touching. I really enjoyed this movie a lot.
Out of the recent high school movies I've seen (Perks of Being a Wallflower, Spectacular Now and The Way Way Back) I think this one is my favorite.
