Review of Paper Moon (1973) by Nelson P — 04 Dec 2010
Another great black and white nostalgia piece from Peter Bogdanovich. Much like "Last Picture Show" it reveals a time in American history where Hollywood portrayed the time period in the movie as very clean cut or in a very narrow minded fashion, "Paper Moon" reveals a lighter side to the American Depression, but with two characters who abuse the desperation and gullibility of bible belters in the American South.
The back and forth between Ryan and Tatum O'Neal was unbelievably funny and charming and sold the whole point of the movie. It's plot and structure are like something that would come out of the 30's, but with a modern sense of humor.
