Review of Paparazzi (2004) by Phily B — 19 Jan 2010
I've never been a fan of TMZ or any of those Gossip mags people seem to buy on a weekly basis. So it was with a bright smile that I sat down to watch Paparazzi. Granted, it wasn't the most realistic storyline, but the fun action more than made up for that.
I rooted for the 'good guy' the whole way, wanted him to take out those losers and didn't once think too hard about it. I found the interesting look at 'what really goes on' behind the superficial vision of Holloywood most people have.
Cole Hauser made the movie his own as Bo Laramie. He had charisma throughout and I really enjoyed his performance. Robin Tunney is a cutie and held her own as the innocent wife. Tom Sizemore was a little out there in his role but it fit.
Let's just hope he's off the drugs for his next movie. Dennis Farina got to play a more straight-forward character and he did it well. He should get more roles like this! Daniel Baldwin is probably one of the better actors of the Baldwin brothers.
The man was awesome. Paul Abascal kept it moving fast and did some awesome editing. It was exactly the type of directing this movie needed and fit like a glove. On the other hand, the editing did affect some of the more layered scenes to a lesser degree.
If you wanted me to get 'into it' more, lay off the CONSTANT quick cuts, please. The PG-13 rating did hurt the movie at times too. GIVE ME THAT VIOLENCE, PLEASE. I wanted to see those jerk-offs have it.
But it was still a fun time for me. It was quick, to the point, action packed and not far off from the truth. Just make sure you're in simple-minded mode and you'll have a blast.
