Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Sanchayan S — 24 Feb 2014
Guillermo Del Toro's "Pan Labyrinth" is a sheer masterpiece with an exceptional piece of storytelling combined with some of the most intimate fantastic elements. The detailing in this independent film is incredible with some of the best designs coming from the genius himself.
With a score of intimacy and a heart touching performance from Ivana Bacquero, this masterful direction from Del Toro makes Pan's labyrinth one of the best films of all times . It redefines fantasy , horror and presents a plethora of symbolism through its visuals that when comprehended gives the most subtle feelings.
Special mention to the "Faun" and the "Pale Man" both played by Doug Jones , and absolutely marvelous designs and amazing choice of colors throughout the movie , where I think the cinematographer Guillermo Navarro had a part .
This film not only was the best of the year but also one of the greatest of all times .
