Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Drew B — 02 Oct 2014
BEAUTIFUL. my complaint is what tragedy was done by mistranslating the title. There is NO ONE NAMED PAN. The fawn had no name, del Toro SPECIFICALLY left him nameless to create the picture that the demons in our own lives have no specific name and could be anything.
By renaming the movie "Pan's Labyrinth," someone inadvertently added their own personal interpretation and (here's whats bad) defined the entire picture for all subsequent viewers by said opinion, as opposed to the director's original idea where definitive positions were left to individual viewers, not some studio marketer.
