Review of Pan's Labyrinth (2006) by Daenerys S — 05 Jul 2014
When a young girl, who is living in a brutal world with her military ranked abusive father and her bed ridden pregnant mother in the countryside, finds out she is a princess of another underground world, she must complete three tasks to prove she is the lost princess.
Pan's labyrinth has to be my all time favorite movie, no question about it. This movie is imaginative and beautiful, but also realistic and dark. The way Guillermo del Toro mixes these two total opposites together is wonderful. Pans Labyrinth has superb acting from both the adult actors and the child actor (Ivana Baquero). Finding child actors who can actually act can be difficult for example Earth to Echo, (I havent seen it but) my god the acting in the trailer almost lowered my IQ. Anyway, the movie is intriguing, unique, and is a fairy tale for grown ups.
Pans Labyrinth includes groundbreaking visuals, a beautiful but also very dark story, great acting, a great script, but most of all Pan's Labyrinth lets us see the beauty in the world no matter how brutal or violent it can be. Pan's Labyrinth really is one of the best movies of the decade, and I will stand by that no matter what.
