Review of Panic Room (2002) by Alex M — 06 Jun 2013
Tense and thrilling, Panic Room benefits greatly from the directorial talent of David Fincher - but even his talent doesn't quite propel this film to the heights it could have reached. I just feel like this could have been much more than what it was, but as it is, it's still a thrilling and tense movie that takes little time in lifting off.
Jodie Foster is the obvious standout of the cast, with Kristen Stewart giving a surprisingly solid performance (I liked her acting more here than in any movie I've seen her in in the past several years).
The trio thieves are good enough - menacing and very real - but nothing about their characters stood out to me. Even Burnham, the most developed of the three, never really impressed me, and I was disappointed that he had to meet such a sad end despite all the good he did - which makes me really wish that we had seen some more back story.
As far as suspenseful movies go, though, Panic Room is quite a thrilling one, and the house that it's set in makes for quite a bit of entertainment - and plenty of heart pounding action to boot.
