Review of Panic in Year Zero! (1962) by Keenan S — 31 Dec 2013
Panic In Year Zero isn't as polished as other films of its type, but it's still a very engaging and entertaining film about a nuclear holocaust. Like most films of its type, it is rather grim with its subject matter, especially what the family must do in order to survive and protect themselves from other survivors.
For the most part, the film is well written, well acted, and very entertaining, but it does have some issues. Sometimes the acting can be cheesy and the film's music also seems horribly inappropriate at times considering the grim subject matter (The music during the implied rape scene sounds like wacky hijinks music pulled out a romantic comedy! You do not play that kind of music during a rape scene!).
Despite minor issues, I still had a blast with this mostly-forgotten gem of a film. If you enjoy older, darker sci-fi films, this one will probably provide you with a lot of entertainment.
