Review of Pan (2015) by David O — 19 Aug 2016
The creative visuals and sometimes impressive story elements are let down massively by boring dialogue, bad casting, stilted action and bad performances. Though the style and more bold choices revolving around the colourful characters of never land are clear and well intentioned, the cast just never seem to fully embrace it with everyone from keys players to extras seeming disconnected with the world as most of the magic is added in post.
With the exception of Jackman whose mainly let down by pointless bits of plot the rest of the performances are just out of nowhere and strange. Levi Miller is far too west end stage actor while Garrett Hudland is just a mystery as to what he was thinking with a lot of blaming clearly needing to go to director Joe Wright for allowing a lot of this to go ahead on set.
