Review of Palindromes (2005) by Ivan C — 07 Dec 2007
Wow. this movie walks the difficult line between comedy and tragedy. its not quite a black comedy, simply because the dramatic story overpowers the few jokes or gags, but its not a drama either. the story is very powerful - solondz does a good job of asking a lot of questions of right and wrong, but leaves them all unanswered.
instead it is up to the audience to be the final judge. the best feature of this movie was the genius idea to portray the protagonist - Aviva - with 12 different actors. while a bit confusing at first, it is a brilliant metaphor showing not only the many sides that a person can have within themselves, but also showing that this is something a universality to the story - one that relates to almost anyone.
great stuff!
