Review of Pale Rider (1985) by Nathan N — 30 Aug 2009
I can't say I was bowled over by it but I can't deny that I was glad to see it. After a nine year hiatus, Eastwood made a return to the western with Pale Rider, the moral opposite of High Plains Drifter and a bookend to his Man With No Name pictures.
However, it doesn't have the kick that one would hope for after such a long time gone. It's a little soft in parts, sort of silly in others and I can't help but feel like there wasn't enough Eastwood.
That said, it's extremely solid, extremely entertaining at times and the Preachers debut is a good one. Might be a little iffy for those who aren't into westerns or Eastwood but fans will breeze right through it.
