Review of Paintball (2009) by Jarek M — 24 Nov 2010
It was a bit iffy and in the end left me a little unsatisfied considering Ive done paint balling, there was just nothing new and enough good to say about this. Contestants are lead to a poorly advertised paintball resort that turns out to have a sick twist, two teams are made, one team with paintball guns, while the other team have fully automatic weapons and even traps, along with thermal vision helmets(sound familiar???).
It starts out pretty action packed and interesting as the team of a pretty good paintball team dodging bullet fire through scraps of cars and a bus struggle and picked out one by one by the mysterious cold blooded killers.
Things slowly began to unravel, however it never became clear to me on what exactly is the purpose of this sick game, besides trying to be serious and incredibly scary, until you see how each kills are performed.
Predator along with the new Predators, are good at being action stealth movies, this movie loves that sooooo much that it decides to take the same thermal vision predators have, but it stays that vision so you can see every kill being performed in hues of yellow, red, and lots of blue.
If it was really desperate in trying to mimic this perspective, then it did well, but at the cost of the rest of the convoluted plot and no development of any characters until like the end. This is Predators on the lowest budget possible where it is stripped of badass characters, the atmosphere, the story, and even the action at times that leads you to an ending that will just force you to never try watching again.
A good kill thrill, nothing more.
