Review of Paint Your Wagon (1969) by Brother G — 16 Oct 2007
A very entertaining movie from start to finish, this movie is very funny and interesting. It features Clint Eastwood in a type of role he only played once-in this movie! He sings and is driven to drink, and, with Lee Marvin becomes married to a woman Lee Marvin bought from a Mormon.
I enjoyed it because it was almost more realistic than Eastwood's or Marvin's gun fighting movies in that it showed what the West was really of made of-gold mining! It's lighthearted yet at the same time, heavy hearted in tone.
It features people with dreams on the frontier in California where anything can happen! It has dramatic times and quite comedically insane moments like the crazy, literal collapse of the town, which wouldn't have collapsed morally, so God let their own greed do it! Definitely worth watching despite the long running time.
I really enjoyed it!
