Review of Paint Your Wagon (1969) by Maria B — 03 Apr 2010
Simply glorious. A deserving long and wonderful musical with the flavour of the real American West in all its ribaldry. The leads (and there are so many but you especially have to love Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin) carry their roles off to perfection.
The California goldfields of the 1880s provide a magnificent backdrop for a story - no, make that stories, of love, lust, greed and friendship, all held together with a fantastic musical score. In the greatest tradition of Hollywood musicals.
Dedicate an evening to it and be delighted by every minute.
