Review of Page One: Inside the New York Times (2011) by Kevin C — 15 Jan 2012
Enjoyable documentary, which perhaps suffers from lacking a real focus. Some interesting stuff about how newspapers will adapt to the internet era; the iPad; Wikileaks controversy etc. Indeed at one stage they pad it out by going over Watergate again, not even a NY Times expose.
The real star is David Carr, a gravel-voiced, middle-aged; ex crack addict journalist. He sees through a lot of the modern technology, and has a strong belief in traditional journalistic values. Its these that the film champions. Whether those values are expressed online or offline doesnâ(TM)t seem to matter to Carr. A good call.
