Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Dorout — 17 Apr 2018
Everything about this movie just doesn't make sense. It doesn't explain where Raleigh Becket went. Also, the writers totally disregarded Chuck Hansen's sacrifice to the world, but gave Stacker Pentecost full credit. It just reeks of PC/SJW BS to me.
The story is literally the same as Rogue one in regards to characters just inheriting points of power without any prior experience what-so-ever. In this case Jake Pentecost eventually assume command of everything and can do it all - Gary Stu. His partner, Nate Lambert, who is infinitely more experienced across the board just sits around and is ultimately replaced by Amara Namani. The glory all goes to team diversity.
That nonsense a side, the movie was very bland. There were only 2.5 fight scenes and they lacked excitement and it felt lazy. The characters lacked depth/development. The plot was essentially non-existent. Lastly, a lot of the movie was extreeeeeemly predictable, except why the kaiju's were present.
I totally enjoyed Pacific Rim 1 and bought the DVD, but Pacific Rim: Uprising was an utter disappointment. Honestly, I kind of wish I never saw it.
