Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Dubeau — 16 May 2018
Uprising was a very average movie. I did appreciate the acting in general. But the story barely involve the actual Kaaju and aliens. Yes you get some hints on the why of the first movie, but it takes way too much time establishing the new characters and too much language translations.
The visuals were pretty good and easily the fun aspect of the movie. The lack of an established movie star, was maybe a bad decision. And turning a previous fun/comedic character into the main villain isn't a good move at all.
So yes, the mechanics works but the essence doesn't make that thing run very far. I give it a 55% because this movie seems to setup a follow up. Will we see it is another question...
