Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Jerry S — 25 Mar 2018
Pacific Rim: Uprising takes place ten years after Jake Pentecost's (John Boeyga) father Stacker died closing the Breach through which the monster Kaijus reached our dimension. Now Jake is pulled into the Jaeger robot program that will protect Earth if the monsters come back. He is to help train the next generation of robot pilots. Meanwhile, the Jaeger program is getting competition and the monsters have a plan to return. Monster sized mayhem ensues.
This film gives you what you would expect. The battles are fun to watch, you have the bromance of a war film, Tokyo gets destroyed and the movie gives new meaning to corporate espionage. The movie gives a modicum of mythology development, which helps explain background for the Kaiju and shows some of the repercussions of the war.
Although the movie is certainly not groundbreaking, you can't fail to enjoy monster on giant robot combat films on the big screen.
