Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Khoo I — 25 Mar 2018
Didn't quite live up to its first installment. There were enjoyable parts such as Boyega's performance as the bad boy turn hero role (although it is no match for the presence & authority that his legendary father brought to the first movie - in which Jack desperately tries to remind us to not compare the two, through is repetitive, 'But I am not my father' line.
On the other hand, Tian Jing's role as Liwen was fun to watch. She successfully nails the intelligent, arrogant, 'dont touch me' aura and the dark lipstick she wore fits in nicely with her no-nonsense persona.
Never liked the whole kids saving the world theme. Found it a bit ridiculous that they could pull off this 'heroic' stunts considering their lack of training/ on the field experience and when you put them next to people like Mako & Becket, it just doesn't add up and the sense of victory is definitely not the same when you compare the final fights.
