Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Zaki M — 26 Mar 2018
Not nearly as good as the first movie, which I adored. The visual effects were decent, and there were a few humorous moments in the movie, especially the jaeger flipping off the kaiju (It was funny to me, at least) and the plot was quite interesting - not regarding the few gaping holes and the lack of originality - Mako and Amara had almost the same story as each other.
The dialogue was where the movie fell flat for me. It couldn't go two scenes without being awkward, which spoiled what could have been some great scenes. The main reason I'm giving it a three out of five is due to the fantastic fight scenes, especially portraying anger in Jake Pentecost when fighting the rogue jaeger - it really convinced me.
If you go to this movie to see kaiju vs jaegers, you will get that in high quality along with some awful dialogue, mediocre acting, and some reasonably funny jokes. Doesn't hold a finger to the first movie, though.
