Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Yash B — 07 Apr 2018
The first "Pacific Rim" was a silly yet very fun movie that had astounding visuals. In this only average sequel, the action scenes are fine and I enjoyed them. This main issues with this movie are that there is no reason to care about any of the characters as the movie has no real emotions behind the wheel.
The dialouge is also too cheesy at times and at times can be laughable. The actors can't be the only ones to blame when the dialouge they have at their disposal is pretty weak. I found the first half of this movie to be pretty uninvolving and really the only bit I enjoyed was the big fight at the end.
The story is not great and the movie has strange tonal inconsistencies. The visuals are still good and the action scenes are also handeled well. Other than that, this movie feels like it was made for younger audiences and almost comes off as a parody of the first.
It's not unwatcably bad but it is a massive let down. I would much rather go watch the first movie than see this disposable action movie again.
