Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Leo K — 11 Apr 2018
I understand that the series is trying to pull in a younger demographic as their main audience, but tailoring it to children this time around just failed big time.
It was reminiscent of transformers 5, in its emphasis on employing hapless children, whom just ragdoll their way through the movie, to save the world.
But by the second half of the film, it survives, and becomes quite amazing. Understandably, it's also catering heavily to the chinese market, by having a strong, dominant chinese character and strong chinese references (almost like American propaganda from the 80's).
The film finishes off on a cocktail of amazing special effects, fight scenes, and suspense, as well as a potential for a sequel - which according to sales numbers, might not happen.
Anyways, the first half of the film was weak, but by the second half, it's a fun movie, and climaxes on an awesome finale.
Looking forward to a 3rd, if ever.
