Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Steven M — 21 Apr 2018
Pacific Rim: Uprising - 2 out of 5 - Pacific Rim Uprising is a Sci-Fi Film directed by Steven DeKnight and is the sequel to Pacific Rim. The sequel stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Adria Arjona, and Zhang Jin, with Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman returning from the original film. It is set in the year 2030 and continues the story from the first film of humanity again fighting Kaiju, giant monsters trying to destroy the world.
This film was missing the magic from the first one, that special Guillermo del Toro touch that made the first one so much fun and so entertaining. This movie dragged in some areas and rushed in others, heck they even threw in a montage. If you are a diehard Kaiju or Pacific Rim fan then you might really enjoy this, but even my love for Godzilla style films couldn't keep my interest in this film. The CGI was beautiful but not super realistic looking.
This movie is a skip in my opinion for the casual film goer. If you love Kaiju style films or are obsessed with the first Pacific Rim then definitely give it a shot in Theaters because it might not be as good on the small screen.
