Review of Pacific Rim (2013) by Alex J — 15 Apr 2015
You know that one movie that defies all possible explaination. Like its probably one of the campiest things to ever grace your eyeballs but you love it so much. That's what Pacific Rim is to me.
Combine all the action filled aspects of a giant, transformer style, Japanese anime robot with the gritty darkness of post- apocalyptic thrillers with the engaging sci fi of the aliens with some truly fantastic/ terrible acting from Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba; and the love child result is Pacific Rim. Nothing in this film makes a lick of sense. From hive minds to badass russian couples, there is literally never a dull moment.
And yet it remains one of my favorite movies ever. Is it that I find the characters engaging, that I find the world building insightful, or that the effects and animation are completely gorgeous. Or some strange cocktail of the three. I certainly can't tell. Whatever the reason, I have and will continue to force unsuspecting friends and family to watch this beautiful disaster with me.
