Review of Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) by Tan N — 07 Dec 2013
Sam Raimi adds his signature flair to this origin story of the WIzard of Oz, and has a very well thought out and engaging story, with very good performances to back it up, especially from James Franco.
The visual effects are outstanding, and the 3D is in your face, gimmicky, awesome 3D. There is a very good arc on how the 3 witches became who they are, and a great reveal as to who the wicked witch is, with great makeup on her similar to how Sam Raimi used makeup in his Evil Dead films.
Overall, a not perfect, but fun and enjoyable film that has more depth and development than you would guess it to have.
