Review of Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) by Martyn E — 14 Jul 2014
Entertaining enough but the green screen colourfulness does get a bit sickly. James Franco is good in the lead role. Not sure there is enough fun throughout the film to keep younger viewers enthralled and there are many scenes that are arguably a bit too dark for some kids.
It did feel like the film was missing the quirky characters (e.g. tinman, scarecrow, lion) from the 1939 original and the cgi replacements just don't make up the deficit. mmmm, a porcelain doll and bellhop monkey.
hmpfh....!
