Review of Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) by Layla A — 14 Oct 2013
It started off great. The whole balloon sequence was really cool and epic feeling. But it slowly got worse. The way Theodora becomes the wicked witch is totally unconvincing. Also, I had a serious problem with how Oz gets a free pass.
He didn't suffer enough to get a happy ending or to even make up for what he did to Theodora. Also, Glinda's rule that her people can't kill sounded so stupid and contrived and plot device-y as she was explaining it.
How about just saying, "I love my sisters so I don't want to hurt them, just stop them." That would have sounded so much better. I also didn't like that he fell for Glinda just because she looked like the other girl he liked from the real world but decided to abandon.
And why does Glinda just succumb to his charm when the womanizer is so undeserving of a good relationship. I hated Oz by the end of the movie! His character was not redeemed at all!
