Review of Owl and the Sparrow (2008) by Cynthia S — 01 Apr 2011
O&S is a naive Romance movie. But when is Romance not naive? It is a charming story about a young girl, who flees from her uncle who works her in his bamboo shades factory withholding her pay. She runs off to the busy streets of Saigon where she adapts to impoverished conditions by selling postcards at first, then, flowers.
In the process of being a flower girl, she runs into two lonely souls, a 26 year old gorgeous flight attendant and a man who works at the city zoo taking care of the animals.
She then becomes a matchmaker to these to lonely souls.
All three characters are nicely developed. I really enjoyed the simple minimal music, especially the simple a major, e major, b major chord sequence.
The child character who played the girl Thuy was literally the glue that brought the movie and characters together.
