Review of Owl and the Sparrow (2008) by Tor M — 08 Jan 2016
Vitnamese film that involves a whole lot of plots. Thuy, a 10 year old girl decides to leave her Uncle that has been taking care of her since her parents died. He's not the nicest guy around so a life in Saigon by her own seems like a nice choice. She get's friends quite easily and her most impotant friends is the pretty air hostess Lan, and the kind zoo keeper Hai. Thuy works as some sort of matchmaker and tries to connect them. Two people that got their issues to deal with, but just as Thuy, the are very kind and warm people.
This film is amazing. It's touching, warm and has a lot of heart. It's really sad that the production is very poor. Poor editing in both sound and video, horrible filming and boring photography. It's quite impressive that the film stand very strong - even with big flaws like this.
It may be a bit too "kind", but it still manage to feel like an honest portrayal and it's a very moving film. I really dug it and I rate it as a hidden gem that seem way overlooked.
8.5 out of 10 roses.
