Review of Overlord (2018) by Scottgun00 — 18 Nov 2018
Short answer: worth a matinee-priced ticket on a weekend when you have nothing better to do. If you can get over the first major anachronism you are faced with: a racially-integrated U.S. Airborne unit, then you will get a fairly exciting 40 minutes of straight-up World War II action.
Then things take a decidedly Lovecraftian turn which, sad to say, became wearying and the worst crime of all, not really scary. On the plus side is a good helping of live action and less of the obtrusive cgi which tends to make most action movies look like video games.
On the silly side is what I call the Nazi Limitless Depravity Rule of filmmaking. That is, all WWII Germans will always choose immoral acts even if they make no sense or are even against their interest.
Still, I had fun which has not happened in the theater for me in quite awhile.
