Review of Over the Hedge (2006) by Clayton R — 06 May 2012
Yet another dreamworks animation involving animals and it's getting slightly boring, luckily the animals have a certain charm and great characteristics, which is slightly a big improvment on most "animal" animated films.
The story is quite simple about a Raccoon, who is a con-artist and has to clear his debt off to a bear and uses woodland creatures to help clear this debt, though the other critters don't know about it, sounds good on paper but the film is abit of a hit-and-miss.
There are some funny moments, though Hammy the Squrial steals the scenes when he's present and he's brilliantly voiced by Steve Carell. Bruce Willis is cool as RJ (The Raccoon) and he should do more voice work as he's really good.
Other than that, it does get dull and the film slows, becoming boring. Sometimes the animation feels lazy but some scenes are truly amazing but it's nothing that Pixar can do. Kids will love it though, though some adults might feel the "Talking Animals" genre a little boring and repetative.
Though it was great that Dreamworks cut out some pop-culture.
