Review of Outpost (2008) by Steve C — 23 Oct 2008
The premise is far out but common enough. Squad of mercenaries escort a scientist to a remote, Eastern European location and end up beind attacked by re-animated Nazi experiments but you know what, I loved it.
I know a lot of people would disagree with me on this but Outpost crossed sci-fi with horror and nazis and successfully mined (literally) everything I love with this type of film. There's the imagination, the history, the realism, the stylish camera work, the humour and the action.
The action may have been a little less actually but the pace is still good and for a low budget British film to be so good is an achievement in itself. British film seems to revel in this area at the moment actually with directors such as Danny Boyle and Neil Marshall fronting the movement.
Edgar Wright with Shaun of the Dead and Christopher Smith with the underrated Severance round it off nicely.
