Review of Outpost (2008) by Ken E — 10 Nov 2012
Great acting and great realism from the set and props (really), but the drawn out scenes go on too long and has nullified the film down to 2.5 stars for my taste.
Sadly, the story itself is what's lacking more than anything else. A good film depends on a great story and Outpost just doesn't have one. It started out promising, but after one third through - the dragging begins, and only for horror styled reasons did they do this. Doesn't work here. The ending was unsatisfying as well.
If I saw this film in the eighties, I'd probably give it 3.5 stars out of 5, but in today's film market, Outpost lacks newness of story. I watched it on Crackle, so that tells you something right there.
Still though, hats off to makers of this film's sets, props, costumes and make-up, and to all the actors who did a great job with what they had to work with - you guys saved it from being a 1 star bomb.
